PARIS, Jul 6 (FAM) – The theft of a shipment of anti-tank rocket launchers and armour-piercing shells from a commercial rail freight wagon in southern France recently has brought into sharp relief the security issues surrounding the transport of such sensitive freight within the commercial freight transport system.

The French military habitually transports munitions on regular freight trains from a dedicated depot near Marseille. The robbery is thought to have taken place as the train stopped at freight stations in the locality to pick up other wagons.
