NEW DELHI, Jun 26 (FAM) – On 15 June 2017, India became the 71st country to ratify the United Nations Convention on International Transport of Goods Under Cover of TIR Carnets, known as the TIR Convention, 1975. The Convention will enter into force for India on December 15, 2017.

The Convention is a multilateral treaty that aims to simplify and harmonize the formalities of international road transport and will help boost trade through smoother movement of goods across territories. Over 35,000 road transport operators worldwide are already authorized to use the TIR system effecting around 1.5 million TIR border crossing procedures per year.
