WASHINGTON, Apr 11 (FAM) – US-based freight railroads achieved a 5.5 per cent year-on-year volume increase in March, after handling a record 2.58 million carloads and intermodal traffic.

The positive result continues with rises of 4.2 per cent registered in February, 0.5 per cent in January, 6.9 per cent in December and 1.1 per cent in November, according to the Association of American Railroads (AAR).

In the first quarter of 2017, total US rail traffic rose 3.5 per cent against the previous year to 6.71 million carloads and intermodal units.
