LONDON, Feb 22 (FAM) – Cargo owners still know few details about the two new container shipping mega-networks launching on 1 April – Ocean Alliance and THE Alliance – says Drewry. The clock is ticking before the launch of two new mega-alliances on 1 April, but a long pause in announcing details has caused planning headaches to ports and shippers, according to container shipping analyst Drewry.

In its latest Container Insight Weekly report, Drewry said that for whatever reasons, the introduction of the two new alliances “has not been plain sailing and some immediate disruption from 1 April seems inevitable”. It believes ports and terminals should privately have a fairly good idea of what they are going to get, “but it’s the shippers who are very much in the dark, and probably other supporting players like truckers and railroads”.
