LONDON, Jan 27 (FAM) – Freight rate gains in the second half (H2) of 2016 meant two thirds of box trade lanes finished the year higher than in 2015, but container lines still earned on average $42 per TEU less in 2016 taken as a whole, according to Bimco.

“This has primarily been due to the devastating low rates received in the first half of 2016, as the average rate received in H2 2016 was 22% higher than the rate received in H2 2015,” concluded Bimco chief shipping analyst Peter Sand.
