HONG KONG, Jan 23 (FAM) – Orient Overseas (International) Limited, the owner of Hong Kong-based carrier Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL), has denied it is in talks with shipping lines about a potential sale following widespread speculation since the start of this year.

Speculation about a looming buyouthas seen OOIL’s shares spike in recent weeks, along with China Cosco and Evergreen. Chinese business newspaper Caixin, citing sources, also claimed on Wednesday that China Cosco Shipping and Evergreen Marine Corp would participate in bidding for OOCL.
