WASHINGTON, Jan 13 (FAM) – Receiving a warm reception during her Senate confirmation hearing Wednesday, Elaine Chao didn’t deliver any new details on how she would deliver on president elect Trump’s promise to unleash $1 trillion in infrastructure spending, and she avoided questions on a major freight grant program, saying she was still forming an opinion.

Her measured response that public and private funding would be needed to maintain and expand infrastructure are the latest sign that shippers and transport providers shouldn’t expect massive upgrades soon, despite Trump’s plan to improve roads and highways, and deepen harbors to make US business more competitive and to create jobs.
