SRI LANKA, Jan 10 (FAM) – The latest stage of China’s ambitious plans to build a network of East-West port hubs linking Asia to Europe prompted violent protests last weekend in Sri Lanka.

At least 21 people were injured on Saturday in clashes between Sri Lankan government supporters and villagers protesting against the alleged takeover of private land to be developed into an industrial zone linked to the port of Hambantota, located some 240 kilometres southeast of the capital Colombo, reported ABC.
