HONG KONG, Nov 9 (FAM) – The Hong Kong Shippers’ Council agree totally with the British International Freight Association (BIFA) that all surcharges should be deleted and wants carriers to make revenue from freight as well as the level to be negotiated or decided by the market under open market principle.

HKSC director Sunny Ho said surcharges could only be allowed under very special circumstances which are unforeseen, not part of the normal operational environment and might lead to substantial disruption of normal conduct of business if no surcharge is allowed to be collected. Henceforth, all surcharges are temporary in nature.
