SHANGHAI, Oct 22 (FAM) – Shanghai Railway Bureau canceled 42 trains yesterday due to the arrival of Typhoon Haima, which made landfall in the coastal city of Shanwei in Guangdong Province at noon. Most of the services were to southern cities such as Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Dongguan.

Haima was packing winds of up to 166 kilometers per hour when it hit the coast. Under the joint influence of Haima and a cold front from north China, Shanghai endured heavy rain yesterday afternoon. Forecasters said the rain would persist until at least tomorrow morning with the west and north parts of the city experiencing the heaviest falls.
